2008 2009 Maine DECA State Officer Team

Name: Zac Racine
School: Lewiston High School
DECA Chapter: Lewiston Regional Technical Center

I am one of the current State Officers for Maine DECA. I am currently in Marketing 2 at the Lewiston Regional Technical Center and I attend Lewiston High School. I’m a senior this year. I just turned 18 on September 8th. I’m part of three honor societies, (National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society). School work is my number one priority and I work hard at maintaining a high GPA. I’m also an avid sports fan. I play hockey and tennis for my school.

I’m very excited for Maine DECA this year. It’s going to be a privileged to serve the students of this organization. Along with my three other fellow officers, we have many goals for this to be a successful one. One of my goals for this year is to visit large Maine companies, like Unum, to try to obtain sponsorships for our organization. I believe this is an extremely important goal for us to achieve because this will help us raise money for our Leadership Day and for States. We want these events to be first-class this year and for future years to follow.

About myself: I am currently a Senior and very excited to go to college next year. I enjoy playing sports like lacrosse and indoor track. In the summers I love to go hiking and surfing and I work at a local ice cream shop. I volunteer as a coach for a cheering team in the fall. My favorite classes in school would have to be either Marketing or Ceramics because I get the chance to use my creativity. I love traveling everywhere and anywhere and hope to some day visit Spain. My favorite color is green and I absolutely love macaroni and cheese.

Goals for the year: I really hope that this year we can coordinate a state wide community service effort, the money drive for the Red Cross, and make the community more aware of Maine DECA’s presence. Also I hope to have a great turn out at the Leadership Conference and at Nationals this year.

My Future: I want to attend college after high school and study Marketing Management or International Business. After graduation I plan to live in either Portland or Boston to work and continue traveling in my free time.

Hello fellow DECA members. My name is Kristy Williams and I attend Lewiston High School and I am seventeen years old. I am part of the Lewiston Regional Technical Center chapter. I was first introduced to
DECA last year and I fell in love with it. I love the competitive nature as well as the amazing opportunities. As a state officer I would really like to bring a sense unity to all of Maine DECA, through coordinating events that will bring all the chapters together. Another goal of mine is to really increase awareness this year to create more involvement in our communities as well as more sponsors. I am so excited to get this year rolling and make it one of the most successful years DECA has ever seen

Name: Sam Howaniec

About myself: Hi everyone! I'm Sam Howaniec, I'm seventeen, 5' 1/2'', and currently I am a senior at Lewiston High School. I am the captain for the varsity field hockey team, and in the winter I cheer for Lewiston's competition team. I love love love love being a part of a team. During the summer, I work as a camp counselor at Camp Smiles. It's probably one of the funnest jobs in the world. My favorite classes in school are Marketing and History. This is my second year of taking a Marketing class, and I would have to say that I am in love with every part of it. I love being creative and I feel that Marketing totally embraces that. I don't like to take life too seriously, but I know how to get down to business. I'm a very friendly and happy person and I love meeting new people, so don't be afraid to introduce yourself! :)

Goals for the year: This year, I really hope to increase the publics awareness of Maine DECA. By asking for sponsorship, or by participating in a state-wide community service project, people will start recognizing Maine DECA, and that we're serious about what we do. I also want to plan an awesome state conference, and help chapters fund raise as much as possible so we can all go to California this spring!

My Future: As of now, I plan to attend a 4-year college (maybe UNH, St. Michael's, Suffolk, or Stonehill), and get a degree either in Business/Marketing or in Education. That's all I really know right now. I do know, however, that whatever my future holds, the skills that I receive from being a part of the Maine DECA State Action Team will help to make me as successful and happy as I can be.
